Lesson 3 - Nitrogen Cycle

Nitrogen is the most abundant gas in the atmosphere, but it can't be used by most organisms in its gaseous form. Before it can be used by organisms, it has to be converted to usable nitrogen compounds. This is done by two main processes called nitrogen fixation, and nitrification. The cycle is completed through denitrification.

We have watched video and a Power Point in class, and discussed how nitrogen moves through biotic and abiotic matter.

1. Create a mind map using your bubbl.us account on the cycle of nitrogen. You can use your textbook and the internet to research your information. Include the words bacteria, ammonia, legumes, ammonium ions, lichens, cyanobacteria, nitrate, DNA, and decompose. You can also include any other words or phrases that help explain the cycle. Save your mind map as a jpeg (use the export button) and upload it to your wikispace page.

2. Homework- Do questions 2-7, 17 on page 95 of your Science Probe 10 textbook. If you have internet access at home, you can write your answers on your wikispace page.
